Step2. Presention (Do 1a) (5’)

Ask Ss to pay attention to the pictures on the wall.Ask Ss write a sentence to describe each picture, they can use the words in the blank or not. Lead into new words and expressions: UFO, alien, landing, running after

Then have Ss guess the story. Ask Ss: If these three picture are from the same story, which one do you think might come first? Why? Let Ss imagine how the story goes. (This step is a prepartion for the listening, Ss can learn the new words and expressions.And they can also predict the story by the target structure.)

Part Two:While Listening

Step3. Listen&Brainstorm(Do 1b) (8’)

Listen to the first half of listening material and number the pictures〔1-3〕in 1a.

Brainstorm: Ask Ss guess what might happen next.

Many Ss say: The man could be caught/killed/eaten/taken away by the alien. and so on.

Then, listen to the second half of listening material. Write two sentences to finish the story in 1b.

Step4. Listen and practice(1c) (8’)

1.Listen again and complete the sentences in 1c,then check answers.

2.Listen and imitate,ask Ss to pay attention to the intonation. (ask Ss to make a mark , from strange to excited to unbelievable to disappointed)

Then practice in groups, group reading competition , Boys PK Girls challenge.

Part Three:Post Listening

Step5. Role play(8’)

Have Ss practice in groups and act it out. (This step is to have Ss practice in different kinds of ways to consolidate the target language)

Step6. Discussion (5’)

Ask Ss “Do you believe there are aliens in the universe(宇宙)”,“what do you think of aliens?” Ss might say “I think there might be aliens in the universe. they could be friendly/scary...” Then ask Ss have a group discussion“If you meet an alien one day, what will you do?”Ask group leaders write down the group members’ thoughts:“If I meet an alien one day, I might...”.(this step is to cultivate Ss’ comprehensive ability of using target language. It can also give advanced Ss more room to develop their creative ability )

Step7. Summary and rap (2’)

Summarize usage of “modal verbs +do”,“modal verbs +have done”“modal verbs +be+doing”.And end up the class with an English rap of modal verbs.
