Ⅲ. Teaching procedures

Step 1.

Greet the students and introduce them what we are going to learn in this class. Then let students learn a slogan which is prepared advanced. After that, let students do a chant:

I can you can he can she can we can they can everybody can can

I can you can he can she can Every-body can can can

Step 2.

Look at the question on the screen:

Can sb. do sth.? Yes,……/No,……

Train students to answer the question. And ask students the question

one by one to make them know how to answer. In this part, students can

review some words and phrases: sing ,dance, fly, swim, draw, play basketball, ride a bike……

Step 3.

Present another question: What else can you do?

First, let students guess the meaning of the word ‘else’, tell them how to use the word. Second, learn some useful phrases: dance to disco, perform ballet, play the guitar, have a good time/have fun/enjoy oneself. Then, ask students what they can do in daily life. And ask a student what he can do. After getting the answer, I will ask another student what the first student can do. In this way, student can learn to talk about others’ ability.

Step4.

Listen to 1a with a question: Who can play the guitar? and practice reading the dialogue. Next, invite two groups (each group two students) to read the dialogue. Then, divide the whole class into two parts, practice the dialogue.

Step5.

Listen to 1a again, try to find all the activities that Jane/Maria can do. Check the answers. What’s more, ask students to find out all the key points and write them down, let someone try his/her best to paraphrase the key points. And finish the match program.

Finish some exercise according to the key points, and check the answers.

Step6.

Do group work. Each group should choose four students to finish this work like this: A: I can…… B: A can…I can … C: A can … B can…, I can…… D: A can … B can… C can …, I can ……Which group can finish it the most quickly and don’t make mistakes will be the winner.

Step7.

Do listening practice in part 2. Students should listen to the materials carefully and find the right answer. What’s more, they should find out where the faults are.

Step8.

Free talk. Look at the pictures on the screen, every student must talk about what himself can do or can’t do. And they should find about the result of other classmates.

Step8.

Lead students to think back what we have learned in this class. And stick the key phrases on the blackboard.
