Step 1 warm up

The teacher shows a picture of a girl, who is a boy’s penfriend, is coming to Xuzhou. And the boy’s oral English is a little poor, so the way of improving his oral English quickly is to master the falling tone and the rising tone.

Step 2 New material

Ask students to read every tip, and pay attention to different tones in different sentence patterns .

When we speak, we drop our tone at the end of a statement.

When we ask a yes / no question, our tone rises at the end of the question.

3.When we ask a wh-question, our tone usually falls at the end of the question.

4.We make our tone rise at the end of a sentence to show surprise.

Simon:The zoo is about three kilometres away from our school.

Step 3 Practice

Ask students to put a falling arrow or a rising arrow at the end of each sentence by themselves.

Check answers and tell us which sentence pattern the sentence is.

Read the text using the right tones.
