Step 1. Lead in

1. Read and think .

T: Before the class. I read a piece of news. I think it’s very interesting, so I want to share with you. Read the news and tell me What do you want to say about it.

Ask some of the students to answer the question.

From the news we know that it’s important and useful to use the correct tone in our daily life and work, so we should try to learn it well in this less. Let’s begin our class.

Step 2. Presentation.

1. Teachers explain the falling tone and rising tone, and give the examples at the same time.

2. Students read the sentences by using the correct tone.

Step 3. Practice

Show the 4 groups of sentences on page 51, listen to the recording and pay attention to the end of each sentences, then read them aloud.

Teachers give the conclusion.

When we speak, we drop our tone at the end of a statement.

When we ask a yes / no question, our tone rises at the end of the question.

When we ask a wh-question, our tone usually falls at the end of the question.

We make our tone rise at the end of a sentence to show surprise.

Read the sentences on the screen. Put a rising arrow or a falling arrow at the end of the sentence. And then read them aloud.

Step 4. Games

Give the rules:

1. In each group, one student asks a question to the next one, he or she answers quickly and then asks another question to the next student.

2. Every one should use the correct tone.

3. Every one should ask or answer questions loudly and clearly.

Teachers listen carefully and find out the mistakes and then correct them immediately.
