S: The Sun and the Earth.
T: Which one is larger, the Sun or the Earth?
S: Yes, the Sun. The Sun is about 1, 300, 000 times larger than the Earth.
Take turns to show another three pictures and ask questions about the pictures.
Step 2 Practice
1. Guide Ss to do exercises in Part A.
T: Today we’ll learn a lot amazing things. In Part A, you can see four pictures. Please match the pictures with the sentences.
2. Ask Ss to read sentences together and recall sentences about amazing things.
3. Let Ss be familiar with these expressions.
Close your books and let us play the game:What’s missing?
Let Ss recite the sentences by themselves and play a game with them.
Ask Ss to close their eyes, then pick a picture and describe the picture.If he /she can recite it correctly.He or she will get a paper apple.
Step 3 Presentation
1. Practise expressing feelings using the adjectives learned. Now you have learnt some amazing things. What do you think of the fun facts?And show students some new adjectives: amazing, cool, funny, wonderful and interesting.
2. Play the tape about Part B and say to Ss: Kitty and Amy are talking about the fun facts in Part A. Listen to their conversation and tell me which pictures they’re talking about and what they think of the facts.
3. Ask Ss to answer the questions in pairs: They’re talking about Pictures 1 and 4. They think they’re interesting and amazing.
4. Let students read the dialogue by themselves and fill in the blanks
5. Now the boys will role-play Kitty and the girls will role-play Amy. Let’s read the conversation together. Try not to look at the book if you can.
6.Let Ss work in pairs and come to the front to act out the dialogue.
Step 4 Comic Strip
Hobo and Eddie are talking about something strange in the sky.
2. Listen to the tape and answer the questions:
What’s the amazing thing?
3.Let Ss watch the video and the following three questions.
What does Hobo think it is?
What does Hobo think it is?
Where do the bright lights come from?
4. Ask Ss to answer the above three questions in pairs.
5. Let’s dub this comic strip .Work in pairs, one as Hobo and the other as Eddie.
