This reading passage is the ending part of this module, but it is important. It mainly talks about smoking. From this passage, students can know more information about smoking, especially the ways to give up smoking, so it not only contains some important words and expressions but also embodies the theme of the whole module. According to the features of this passage, I decided to combine introduction of this module and this passage into one period. Thus, this period is the first lesson of this module.
Teaching aims
According to the teaching material, the new curriculum of English and students, I designed the following aims. They are; knowledge aims; ability aims; emotion aims.
Knowledge aims:
To master important new words and expressions.
To know some facts about smoking and the danger of smoking.
C.To learn about the ways to give up smoking and the ban on smoking.
Ability aims:
A.To develop students’ basic reading skills by skimming and scanning and their writing skills.
B.To make students express their opinions freely in class and cultivate their ability to cooperate with others.
C.To equip students with the ability to persuade those who are addicted in smoking to stop smoking.
Emotion aim:
To form the sense of keeping away from smoking and protecting themselves.
Key points
To master important new words and expressions.
To know the danger of smoking and the ways to give up smoking.
To develop students’ basic reading skills by skimming and scanning.

Difficult points
A.To discuss the ways to stop smoking, the danger of smoking and the benefits of giving up smoking.

Part 2 The Analysis of Students
I have been teaching Class 5 and 6, Senior one.
They have their unique and creative thoughts, and they have known some unhealthy habits. Besides, they have known some ways to give up smoking and the danger of smoking through their lives. That is good. But some of them are too shy to express their opinions, or they cannot describe their ideas by using correct words, phrases or sentence patterns. So the teacher should encourage and stimulate students with great patience by giving them correct direction and guidance.
