?Step 1 Finding out the problem

1. Read a letter from Li Hua asking for advice on page 24.

2. Ask students to find out the problem that Li Hua has.

?Step 2 Brainstorm

1. Ask students to brainstorm the suggestions you want to give to Li Hua。

? Divide students into groups of four and have them make a list of the suggestions.

? Students may include:

? 1. Smoking doesn’t suggest that one is grown up.

? 2. Students shouldn’t smoke because it is bad for health.

2. Have students share their lists.

3. Ask students to decide on the details they want to mention in the letter. Combine the details with the same meaning into one reason. Altogether, write 3-4 reasons for not smoking.

?Step 3 Organize the letter.
