Teaching aims:

To help students have a good command of words and phrases on friends and friendship;

To improve students’ Oral English by free talk and role-play;

To enable students’ to write about friends and friendship;

To help students have a deep understanding of friendship and how to get along well with friends.

Teaching difficulties:

How to help students to talk about friends and friendship fluently.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 lead-in (3 minutes)

Show a photo of two friends on the PPT. Then make a brief introduction of my best friend at college to catch the students’ attention.And then lead to the topic of friends naturally.

Step 2 Brainstorming (make a list of adjectives on friends )(5 minutes)

Let the students think of as much adjectives as possible to describe a friend, and work in groups to pick out the most important ones. Students can have some concept on friends.

Step 3 Group competition (write words and phrases on friendship) (5 minutes)

The students work in groups and have a free discussion about words and phrases on friendships. And choose one student from each group to write down the expressions on the exercise book.In the end, each big group choose some representatives to write their answers on the blackboard.The group write the most will be the winner. In order to win the game, everyone will be active.

Step 4 Translation (5 minutes)

Use the words and phrases that the students have just learned to translate the five sentences into English. It can test if the students can use the words and phrases skillfully.

Step 5 Role-play (5 minutes)

Ask the students work in pairs, suppose one is a reporter, the other student is the interviewee. The reporter has to ask the interview questions on the PPT. Before the students do it, here is an example for them.After they have finished, some pairs will come to the platform to perform their role play for other students.

R(reporter) : Excuse me! Miss! Can you give me five minutes. I’m a reporter. I want to ask you some questions about your best friend.

I(interviewee): OK, I have ten minutes.

R: Thank you! First, can you tell me who’s your best friend?

I: My best friend is Daisy.

R: What’s she like?
